Preparatory School Aerial View Campus Maps

Lake Highland Preparatory School required a cohesive set of illustrated campus maps to serve two distinct locations: the Charles Clayton Campus for the Middle School and the much larger Charles E. Bradshaw Campus, which houses both the Lower and Upper School along with an extensive athletic complex. Because the Bradshaw Campus spans a broad area with many specialized facilities, clarity and spatial accuracy were essential. The goal was to create maps that were both visually engaging and easy to understand for students, parents, visitors, and faculty.
To achieve this, I developed a realistic illustrated style that balanced architectural detail with legibility at multiple viewing sizes. The school’s established color palette was incorporated throughout the artwork to maintain brand consistency and present a refined, professional appearance. Ultimately, four separate maps were created to clearly communicate the geographic relationships between academic buildings, athletic facilities, parking areas, and circulation routes. This multi map approach allowed each portion of the campus to be showcased without overcrowding the composition.
Lake Highland Preparatory School provided existing maps that required revision, which served as a helpful reference point for layout and labeling. However, the project demanded additional research and verification to ensure accuracy. High resolution Digital Globe satellite imagery was used to determine the precise size, placement, and orientation of most buildings and landscape features. For recently completed construction at the Charles E. Bradshaw Campus, additional sources were consulted to reflect the most current campus layout.
The final illustrations were rendered using Kerkythea to achieve a polished and dimensional look that enhances depth, lighting, and material detail. These illustrated campus maps function as both practical navigation tools and strong visual assets for marketing, admissions materials, and web use. Projects like this demonstrate how custom illustrated maps can help educational institutions communicate complex spaces clearly while reinforcing their identity and sense of place.
