About John Potter / Escape Key Graphics

One Studio, Two Disciplines

I am John Potter. I run a small studio called Escape Key Graphics down in South Florida. I paint, I draw, and I make maps. Some of the paintings end up in private collections. Some of the maps help people find their way around boat shows, resorts, and campuses. It is a mix that might seem unusual, but the two sides of the work actually feed into each other more than you would think. The same attention that goes into a mural shows up in a marina map. It is all part of the same practice.

Work That Spans Decades and Borders

My career has included collaborations with clients across the United States, the Caribbean, and the United Kingdom. I have created permanent illustrated installations for municipal governments, book covers for independent presses, and marina maps used by facilities on three continents. This range is not accidental. I am genuinely interested in different problems and different audiences. The common thread is a commitment to craftsmanship and clear communication regardless of the project type.

Storytelling at the Center

Every commission, whether a book cover, a technical diagram, or a commemorative illustrated map, starts with the same question. What story needs to be told? I approach each project with the integrity of an artist and the analytical habits of a designer. Attention must be earned, not demanded. The final piece should fulfill its specific role with clarity and presence.

A Partner, Not Just a Vendor

Escape Key Graphics operates as a dedicated collaborator for clients who value distinctive work and professional execution. I produce original pieces that are aesthetically considered and functionally tailored. Corporate branding, publications, personal commissions, and special events all receive the same level of attention. My name is on the work, and I take that responsibility seriously.
