AR Portfolio
Artist, Illustrator, Animator: John Potter - Escape Key Graphics
While the long-term impact of augmented reality is still evolving, it offers exciting opportunities for creative applications. Whether AR becomes a mainstream tool for communication, marketing, or entertainment or simply a novel experience, it is already opening doors for interactive storytelling. I wanted to explore how AR could complement my illustration work and create engaging, dynamic experiences for viewers.
In my projects, augmented reality is integrated directly with illustrations. By scanning a QR code with a smartphone, viewers are prompted to install an app that brings still illustrations to life through animation. This approach allows static artwork to take on motion and interactivity, providing a unique way for audiences to experience visual content.
While early reactions have described this work as a fascinating novelty, AR has the potential to become a powerful tool for engagement. Whether for marketing, educational purposes, or enhancing the viewer experience, integrating augmented reality with illustration can transform the way people interact with visual storytelling.
