Artistic Painting (acrylic on wood panel 16"X16")
Artist: John Potter

This painting belongs to an ongoing portrait series that explores halftones through a contemporary fine art lens. The idea for this piece came together quickly after encountering a compelling photograph by Walter Mori, whose image provided both structure and atmosphere for the composition.
The portrait was executed in acrylic using a combination of paint sprayer and airbrush techniques. This approach allowed for soft transitions, controlled texture, and a visual language that subtly references the industrial and commercial processes often associated with Pop Art. The result balances precision with expressive restraint, aligning the subject’s iconic presence with a modern painterly treatment.
Andy Warhol’s legacy is inseparable from collaboration, particularly with Gerard Malanga, who played a significant role in the production of much of Warhol’s studio work from the early years through his later career. Recognizing this collaborative history adds another layer of context to Warhol’s influence and to any contemporary engagement with his image. This portrait reflects not only Warhol as an individual, but also the broader creative system that shaped one of the most recognizable figures in twentieth century art.
