Event Overview
The San Diego International Boat Show will take place June 11 through 14, 2026 at Safe Harbor Sunroad. As in previous years, the event will feature a dynamic mix of in water and on land exhibitions, interactive activations, and entertainment for boating enthusiasts of all kinds.
My Role and Process
I was once again tasked by Revel Republic to create an illustrated map for the event. This year’s work focused mainly on text revisions, proving that a well thought out visual design can stand the test of time.
Following my usual technique for maps like this, I first built a three dimensional digital model of the venue. This model can be rendered from limitless angles and zoom levels. After refining the renderings in Adobe Photoshop, I handle the graphical elements such as logos and map keys in Adobe Illustrator. The final result is a bitmap illustration with vector graphics layered on top for a clean, polished look.
Features for Easy Navigation
For streamlined navigation, exhibitor locations are grouped by color coded zones. Major points of interest, including VIP parking are numbered for quick reference. Essential facilities and amenities such as restrooms, will call, and recurring services like food vendors are shown with clear icons. This makes the map intuitive and easy to use.
Built for the Future
Building the venue as a virtual model also allows flexibility for future revisions. Changes to perspective or layout can be made without needing to start the illustration from scratch.
This map balances practical wayfinding with sophisticated design. It helps attendees orient themselves quickly while reinforcing the premium experience of the San Diego International Boat Show.
