Small Mural components as accents
Illustration, Design and Mural Painting by John Potter - Escape Key Graphics

Three Small Murals, One Home
I painted these three accent murals in my own house. Each one occupies a different spot and serves a different purpose. Acrylics were the right choice for all of them. The paint moves well, the color holds up, and if I ever want a change, I can roll right over them. That flexibility matters in a living space.
Patio: Ancient Shapes, Modern Wall
The patio mural references Mycenaean Greek art. Simplified geometric forms and repeating bands create a quiet classical rhythm. Above that I added a trompe l'oeil flower arrangement. The illusion of depth and the loose, organic shapes play against the strict geometry below. Two treatments, one wall, no competition.
Bedroom Corner: Hummingbird and Bush
A hummingbird feeds from a Butterfly Bush in this corner scene. I kept the palette natural and the composition tight. The mural adds movement and quiet color without taking over the room. Most of the wall remains open for framed art, a television, or nothing at all. Accent work should accent, not consume.
Above the Door: Just for Fun
Doorways are transitions. This one has a small trompe l'oeil cluster of flowers above it. No deeper meaning. No historical reference. Just a simple, playful application of technique that turns a blank architectural detail into something worth glancing at.
Why Accent Murals Work
These three projects show what small scale mural work can do. Accent murals define a room's character without demanding full wall commitment. They create focal points, express personal taste, and integrate art into daily life. Historical homage, natural themes, and pure decoration all have their place. The common thread is intention.
Custom Work for Your Space
I provide professional mural and illustration services for residential and commercial clients seeking hand painted artwork. Site specific designs that complement architecture and reflect personal or brand identity are my focus. I handle every stage of the process from concept sketches through final execution. Composition, color theory, and technical precision guide every decision.
