Small Mural components as accents
Illustration, Design and Mural Painting by John Potter - Escape Key Graphics

Three Murals, One Home
These three accent murals started as personal projects inside my own home. Each one was painted with acrylics, chosen for rich color and lasting durability. Together they show how small, focused mural work can change the feel of a room without dominating it. I wanted to add character to specific spots. The patio, a bedroom corner, and the space above a door each received something different.
Patio: Classical Meets Playful
The patio mural draws from Mycenaean Greek art. Geometric patterns and repeating motifs anchor the composition in classical reference. Above that band I painted a trompe l'oeil floral arrangement. The illusion of depth and the loose, decorative style soften the historical weight below. Two approaches, one wall, no conflict.
Bedroom Corner: Quiet Movement
A hummingbird feeds from a Butterfly Bush in this corner scene. The composition is tight and the color is restrained. I wanted the mural to feel calm without fading into the background. Natural imagery works well in sleeping spaces. It introduces organic form and gentle direction without demanding constant attention.
Above the Door: Unexpected Detail
Doorways are thresholds. They deserve more than blank drywall. This trompe l'oeil cluster of flowers transforms a standard architectural feature into something worth pausing at. The scale is modest. The effect is not. Functional elements can carry visual weight too.
Custom Murals for Any Space
These three projects demonstrate how accent murals function in residential settings. They establish visual anchors, introduce personality, and integrate art directly into daily life. The same approach translates to commercial environments, lobby installations, branded environments, and hospitality spaces. My role is to develop designs that align with your architecture and reflect the atmosphere you want to create.
From Concept to Wall
I manage every phase of the mural process. Concept development, composition, color planning, and final application all fall within my practice. Small decorative details and prominent statement pieces receive the same level of attention. My work is grounded in thoughtful composition, harmonious color, and careful execution.
