Fort Lauderdale Convention Center 2014 Map: Annual Precision and Brand Integration
Client: Show Management

Broward County Convention Center Visitor's Map for the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show
The 2014 map of the Fort Lauderdale Convention Center continues the detailed illustrative work for the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, applying essential annual updates to the established 3D digital model. As a key component of the event's navigational system, the map required precise revisions to maintain its role as a reliable guide for attendees exploring the expansive indoor exhibits.
The core updates for this edition focused on the specific details that change from year to year. Exhibitor placements were adjusted, booth number spans were revised, and the keying for various points of interest was updated to reflect the current show layout. Additionally, sponsor logos featured on the map were reviewed and updated to align with the current year's partnerships, ensuring the illustration remained both functionally accurate and commercially relevant.
The underlying design, praised for its clarity and realism, remained consistent. The map continued to utilize the three dimensional digital model introduced in 2013, providing a natural perspective of the interior space. The visual language—including the color coded floor plan, intuitive graphical icons for amenities, and the clear callouts for major exhibits—was preserved to offer returning visitors a familiar and intuitive experience.
This project highlights the balance between consistency and specificity in annual event graphics. By efficiently updating the variable elements within a trusted and effective visual framework, the 2014 map successfully fulfilled its dual purpose: serving as an accurate logistical tool and a cohesive piece of event branding.
This map is part of an ongoing annual series. To see the foundational 3D design from the previous year, please visit the Fort Lauderdale Convention Center 2013 Map.

Custom Map Illustration by John Potter / Escape Key Graphics
For many attendees, one of the most memorable elements of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show is the illustrated map system used throughout the event, helping visitors navigate the sprawling multi-location layout with confidence.
From 2010 through present (with the exception of 2021), I had the privilege of serving as the primary map illustrator and designer for FLIBS, working closely with Informa Markets (previously Show Management) to evolve the look, usability, and precision of the show’s cartographic and visual wayfinding materials. These maps have been used:
-
As the official printed show map, tailored each year to reflect expanded and redesigned show footprints
-
Within the FLIBS mobile app to help users navigate docks, tents, marinas, and exhibitor displays
-
On exhibit signage and environmental graphics throughout multiple show locations
-
As transit, guide, and foldable maps for attendee convenience
Over the years, I’ve adapted styles, software workflows, and presentation formats to improve clarity, navigability, and visual impact as the show has grown in size and complexity. My designs aim to balance technical accuracy with artistic clarity, making it easy for attendees to find exhibitors, boats, services, and key show features while reinforcing the premium brand experience of FLIBS.
