Map for the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show 2017

This 2017 map of the Broward County Convention Center for the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) demonstrates the value of a mature, trusted design. As part of a long term annual collaboration, this year's project focused on implementing the precise data updates required to maintain its accuracy and reliability for tens of thousands of event attendees, all within the established visual framework that ensures immediate user recognition. This tradition was carried on as Show Management became part of Informa Markets in 2017.

The core task involved a detailed revision of all exhibitor specific information. This included updating the placement of each exhibitor's space on the convention floor, adjusting the exact footprints of those areas, and meticulously correcting every corresponding booth number span. While these updates may appear routine, they are fundamentally critical. They are what transform a generic venue diagram into a dynamic, authoritative tool for the current year's event, providing the specific accuracy that visitors, exhibitors, and staff depend upon.

The map's visual presentation remained consistent with the clean, modern aesthetic solidified in previous years. It retained the effective overhead perspective and generous use of white space that promotes clarity. All functional systems, including the color coded transportation keys, intuitive graphical icons for amenities, and clear point of interest markers, were preserved to offer returning guests a seamless and familiar navigational experience.

The First and Most Important Visual

A professional illustrated map of this caliber serves a purpose that extends far beyond its practical role in on site wayfinding. While it performs flawlessly as a printed guide and integrated signage, its most strategic value is realized in the crucial period before the event begins.

In the pre event promotional phase, organizers frequently face a visual communications gap. Generic stock photography cannot accurately represent the unique, temporary environment of a major trade show or conference. A custom map is the solution, as it is often the only accurate and relevant visual asset available beforehand. It provides organizers with substantive, meaningful content that conveys a clear vision of the event's scale, professional organization, and thoughtful planning. This allows marketing efforts to build genuine anticipation and confidence among potential attendees, sponsors, and exhibitors by offering a tangible preview of the experience. For any large scale event seeking to attract a sophisticated audience, a well designed map is not a mere accessory; it is a foundational marketing tool and a visual promise of a well executed event.
