Dancing Fox Wall Art
Client: Boca Grove Golf and Country Club

This original mural, created for the Boca Grove Golf and Tennis Club, serves as a dynamic focal point within a larger decorative scheme. The piece was commissioned to provide a vibrant exclamation mark at the conclusion of an extended mural sequence, injecting energy and personality into the space.
The concept draws artistic inspiration from two distinct sources. The initial direction came from the client's admiration for the style of contemporary street artist Martin Whatson. From there, I infused the character with a sense of animated life, influenced by the whimsical and masterful anthropomorphic illustrations of Heinrich Kley, an artist whose work frequently inspires my approach to giving animals human-like vitality and expression.
Executed primarily in acrylics and paint markers, the dancing fox presented a unique technical challenge due to the varied surfaces of the wall. The majority of the figure is painted on a smooth door surface, allowing for clean lines and detailed rendering. However, sections of the fox extend onto an adjacent area of rough, dashed-finish stucco. Maintaining visual consistency across these two radically different textures required careful adaptation of technique to ensure the character remained cohesive and lively from every angle.
This playful fox is one component of a more extensive mural program within the room. The accompanying photographs provide context, showing how this standalone character interacts with and completes the broader visual narrative of the space, contributing to a unified artistic environment.
From Commercial Illustration to Fine Art Execution
While my professional work often involves precise commercial illustration for maps and events, this mural project resides firmly within the realm of fine art. It showcases the application of foundational artistic skills - composition, character design, color theory, and adaptive painting techniques - in the service of creating a unique, site-specific artwork. It underscores the fluidity between disciplines, demonstrating how the same hand that drafts a meticulous event map can also paint a spirited narrative character for a permanent installation.
This project highlights my capacity to translate client vision and artistic influences into a compelling finished piece, regardless of scale or surface. Murals, as public or institutional fine art, require both creative vision and practical problem-solving, skills honed through years of diverse visual projects.
